Rosenthal, BMP, 999. – Enthält großenteils Abhandlungen über Aberglauben und Okkultismus: Astrologie, Chiromantie, Geomantie und Magie aller Art. – Die Sammlung wurde von Matthias Schürer auf Kosten Thomas Wolffs d. J. herausgegeben. Anlaß war das im Jahre 1505 von Wolff in seinem Hause in Straßburg veranstaltete Symposion sapientium, welches er mit den Straßburger Genossen zu Ehren einer Anzahl bei ihm weilender italienischer Gelehrter gab, darunter Pico della Mirandola. Da die einzelnen Teile auch separat verkauft wurden, sind komplette Exemplare wie das vorliegende so gut wie unauffindbar.

Es existieren wenige Exemplare mit einer zusätzlichen Lage mit acht Blättern "Ad lectorem" am Ende; diese sind jedoch weder im VD 16 noch bei Adams enthalten. – Durchgehend, tls. stärker wasserrandig. – Innengelenke und Buchblock gebrochen, Vorsätze wurmspurig, Vorsatz und Titel mit Besitzvermerk von alter Hand, mit zahlr. zeitgenössischen Marginalien, im weißen Rand gering wurmstichig, gering gebräunt und fleckig. – Sehr selten. – Mod. Exlibris.

(4 of those blank). – Only edition of this collection of writings. – Contains mostly treatises on superstition and occultism: astrology, chiromancy, geomancy and magic of all kinds. The occasion for the publication was the Symposion sapientium organised by Wolff in 1505 at his home in Strasbourg, which he gave with other Strasbourg fellows in honour of a number of Italian scholars staying with him, including Pico della Mirandola. As the individual parts were also sold separately, complete copies like ours are hard to come by. – There are very few copies with 8 additional leaves "Ad lectorem" at the end; those copies are not listed with the VD 16 or with Adams. – Throughout, partially heavier waterstained. – Inner joints and block cracked, end-papers with worming, end-paper and title with old ownership entry, with various contemporary marginalia, some worming in the white margins, slightly tanned and soiled. – Very rare. – With modern bookplate. – Contemporary pigskin over wooden boards, with blind-tooling and clasp (soiled, with worm holes, scuffed and bumped).
