Bidding

You can bid in the following ways:

  • in person
  • by submitting absentee bids by letter, fax or email. Bidding forms can be found in our catalogues.
  • via our website, directly in the Online Catalogue (you need to register first).
  • by telephone while bidding is underway
  • live via Internet browser and mobile app

Please note that in the case of absentee bids (letter, fax or email) you will need to state your full name, full postal address, phone/fax no. and email address. Please remember to sign and date your bid. Dealers whose businesses are registered in the European Union must also quote their European VAT Registration Number to ensure correct invoicing.

Zisska & Lacher Buch- und Kunstauktionshaus GmbH & Co. KG will endeavour to execute all absentee bids on your behalf as if you were bidding in person. No guarantee can be given that absentee bids reaching the auction house less than 24 hours before the auction opens or during the auction itself will be executed. If two or more bidders submit identical absentee bids, the successful bidder will be drawn by lot.

All prices printed in the sale catalogue are estimates in Euros and are neither reserves nor starting prices. Bidding commences at 50% of the estimate unless competing bids have been received. Zisska & Schauer is unable to accept bids of less than 50% of the estimate.

As soon as a lot has been knocked down, it may be handed over to the buyer at the auction house if immediate cash payment is made. We also accept payment by EC or credit card, the latter with an extra charge of 3%. Buyer’s premium is charged at the rate of 20% of the hammer price. In addition, private buyers resident in the European Union are required to pay VAT at the current rate of 7% (19 % on works of art). In case of margin scheme a buyer’s premium of 28 % including statutory VAT is levied on the hammer price, without separate indication of the VAT amount.
Successful absentee bidders are notified by invoice immediately after the auction. Purchases will be dispatched following receipt of full payment or clearance of cheque. Shipping/postage and insurance charges are at the buyer’s expense.

Please see our Conditions of Sale which include further information for trade clients regarding bidding as well as our general conditions of business.

Telephone Bidding

You can bid live by telephone as bidding is underway. Telephone lines are limited, so telephone bidding is reserved for lots with estimates set at over € 1,000.
Please register your request to bid by telephone in writing (by letter, fax or email) no later than two full days before the auction. Please specify the lot number, author and short title.
You will need to give us your full name, full postal address and the telephone number you wish to be contacted on during the auction (please restrict use of mobile phones to a minimum).
Dealers from within the European Union must also quote their European Value Added Tax Registration Number to ensure correct invoicing. New bidders must also provide proof of identity and references when submitting a request to bid by telephone. Failure to do this may result in your request not being processed. Arrangements to bid in languages other than German or English must be made well in advance of the auction date.

As telephone bidding is not always a reliable option, it is in your own interest to submit an emergency absentee bid specifying the maximum amount you wish to bid (in Euros) and the lot number, author and short title.
Telephone bidding is at the bidder’s risk and Zisska & Lacher Buch- und Kunstauktionshaus GmbH & Co. KG accepts no liability for failure to execute bids. This also applies to breakdowns in telecommunications systems, interruptions or inadequate mobile phone coverage.
Prospective buyers registering for telephone bidding are in any case bound to a bid equivalent to the estimate of the lot which they are registering to bid on.
